Prince Harry and Meghan Face Renewed Pressure Over Titles After Jordan Visit

Critics question whether the Sussexes should continue using royal titles following Middle East trip

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are once again under scrutiny following their recent two-day visit to Jordan.

The Duke of Sussex and Meghan Markle travelled to the region at the invitation of World Health Organization director-general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The visit focused on humanitarian efforts supporting Syrian and Palestinian refugees.

Despite the charitable purpose of the trip, the couple have faced fresh criticism online. Some commentators described the visit as resembling a “pseudo-royal tour” and questioned why they continue to use their Duke and Duchess titles after stepping back as senior working members of the Royal Family in 2020.

Several critics argued that their high-profile international appearances blur the line between their independent work and official royal duties. Others suggested the titles create confusion about whether they represent the monarchy.

The debate also intensified as some observers compared the Jordan trip to Prince William’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia, with critics claiming the timing raised eyebrows.

Supporters, however, maintain that Harry and Meghan are entitled to carry out charitable initiatives independently and that their titles remain legally theirs unless formally removed.

The discussion over their roles and titles has resurfaced repeatedly since their departure from royal duties, and this latest trip has once again placed the issue in the spotlight.
