Insider says situation is “much more serious” after fresh controversy rocks the monarchy
King Charles carried out a series of important meetings at Buckingham Palace as the royal family continues to deal with mounting pressure following the latest controversy linked to Andrew.
The King’s engagements came just a day after senior members of the royal family encountered angry protesters during the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey.
As King Charles, Prince William, Queen Camilla, Catherine and other senior royals arrived at the ceremony, a group of demonstrators gathered outside the venue. Several protesters carried placards referencing Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, drawing renewed attention to the ongoing fallout surrounding him.
A palace insider suggested the situation has taken a more serious turn than previous royal challenges.
“Other events have rocked the monarchy, but something from within, where someone is being arrested, is very different,” the source told People. “This is much more serious.”
Amid the tense atmosphere, King Charles continued with his official duties and held an audience with Flight Lieutenant Colin Bell at Buckingham Palace.
The palace later shared a photograph of the meeting on its social media accounts, noting that Bell, now 105 years old, served as an RAF Mosquito pilot during the Second World War. During the visit, he presented the King with a book recounting his wartime experiences.
In return, the monarch formally presented Bell with the citation for his Distinguished Flying Cross, an honour originally awarded by King George VI in 1945.
Earlier, royal commentator Cameron Walker also revealed that the King had met with Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood at Buckingham Palace ahead of a scheduled Privy Council meeting, according to the Court Circular.
The series of meetings comes as the royal household navigates renewed scrutiny and public reaction following the latest developments surrounding Andrew.
