The monarch is expected to travel to Washington later this month for a meeting with Donald Trump at the White House, where discussions are expected to touch on a range of political matters.
A palace source told The Times that there is confidence surrounding the visit, while recognising the sensitivities involved.
The source said Their Majesties are enthusiastic about a programme designed to celebrate the bond between both nations and their people.
Trump also told Reuters that he intended to “talk about everything” during the meeting.
Meanwhile, columnist Allison Pearson wrote in The Daily Telegraph that the visit would demand all of the King’s diplomatic skill and humour as he meets a president who has made critical remarks about Britain.
She also suggested there may be renewed public attention on past royal controversies during the trip, increasing pressure on the monarch as he carries out the high-profile engagement.
