Prince Harry Named in Defamation Lawsuit by Charity He Founded

Legal dispute emerges after Duke of Sussex stepped down from Sentebale following internal conflict

Harry, the Duke of Sussex, is facing a defamation lawsuit filed by Sentebale, the charity he helped establish nearly two decades ago.

According to court documents, the organisation filed the case on March 24. The lawsuit names Harry and former trustee Mark Dyer as defendants and is reportedly listed under claims involving libel and slander.

So far, representatives for Harry and the charity have not released further details about the allegations.

The legal development comes after Harry and fellow founder Prince Seeiso stepped down from their roles at Sentebale in March 2025. Their departure followed an internal dispute concerning the charity’s management and its chair, Sophie Chandauka.

At the time, a spokesperson for Harry addressed the situation, noting that an investigation by the Charity Commission found no wrongdoing connected to the Duke of Sussex in relation to the organisation.

The spokesperson added that the commission also found no evidence supporting allegations of bullying, harassment, or misogyny within the charity.

However, they criticised the report for not fully addressing the consequences of the dispute, suggesting that the effects of the chair’s actions could ultimately impact the children who rely on Sentebale’s support.

The Charity Commission’s review criticised all sides involved in the conflict and noted that the public nature of the dispute had harmed the organisation.

Harry originally founded Sentebale in 2006 alongside Prince Seeiso of Lesotho to support vulnerable children and young people in southern Africa.
