Former US President praises Princess of Wales and Prince William in candid remarks
Donald Trump has shared warm private remarks about Catherine, Princess of Wales, according to royal author Robert Hardman.
Hardman, who was invited to an off-camera meeting in the Oval Office during the state visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, later described the conversation in an interview. During the discussion, Trump asked about Catherine’s wellbeing and spoke positively about her.
“She’s so great,” he said, reflecting on time spent with her during his UK visit. He also praised her resilience following her health struggles in early 2024, when her absence from public life led to widespread speculation before she confirmed her cancer diagnosis.
Trump also spoke highly of Prince William, Prince of Wales, calling him “a great guy” and saying he would make a strong future king.
The former president expressed enthusiasm for the royal visit to the United States, which coincided with commemorations marking 250 years of American independence and aimed to ease tensions on global issues.
He also reiterated his admiration for the late Queen Elizabeth II, asking whether arrangements for the visiting monarch had been well handled and describing King Charles as “a great guy”.
However, his tone shifted when discussing Harry and Meghan Markle. Trump offered a blunt personal opinion about their relationship, suggesting Meghan’s influence had distanced Harry from the royal fold.
