Football icon David Beckham will be honoured in Los Angeles, with wife Victoria Beckham and Tom Cruise expected to speak at the ceremony.
David Beckham is set to receive one of Hollywood’s most prestigious honours when he is awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The ceremony is scheduled for June 12, with Victoria Beckham expected to take part in the celebration as a guest speaker. She will be joined by longtime friend and actor Tom Cruise, who is also expected to address attendees during the event.
The recognition places Beckham among an elite group of figures from the worlds of sport, music and entertainment who have earned a place on the famous boulevard.
According to Ana Martinez, the honour comes at a significant time as the United States prepares to host the upcoming FIFA World Cup. Organisers highlighted Beckham’s role in raising football’s profile in America and praised his lasting impact on sports, entertainment and global culture.
His plaque will reportedly carry the title “Sir” following the knighthood he received from King Charles III last year.
Reports have suggested the occasion could once again draw attention to ongoing family tensions, with Beckham’s eldest son, Brooklyn Beckham, unlikely to attend.
Beckham’s star will become the 2,849th addition to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, joining celebrated sporting figures such as Muhammad Ali and Billie Jean King.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce states that candidates for a star must demonstrate professional achievement, have at least five years of experience in their category, contribute to the community and agree to attend the dedication ceremony if selected.
