Prince William Looks to America's 'Royal Family' for Inspiration

The Prince of Wales has drawn motivation from the Kennedy family's legacy while advancing his Earthshot mission.

Prince William has found inspiration from what many consider America's version of a royal family: the Kennedys.

As he prepares for his future role as king, the Prince of Wales has looked to the famous political dynasty for guidance, particularly when developing his environmental initiatives.

Royal author Caroline Hallemann explained that William has often spoken about the influence of President John F. Kennedy's ambitious Moonshot challenge on his own vision for change.

"William had always emphasized that the Kennedy Moonshot—President John F. Kennedy's bold statement that we would send a man to the moon and bring him safely back home within a decade—had inspired him to launch Earthshot," Hallemann said.

She noted that William strengthened those connections when he brought the Earthshot Prize to Boston during its second year.

"Prince William brought the Earthshot Prize, his big global environmental initiative, to Boston in its second year," Hallemann said, adding that "this visit to Boston really emphasized those ties."

According to Hallemann, William embraced Kennedy imagery, language and legacy to help promote a cause that is especially important to him.

"This was a British royal using the Kennedy iconography and language and legacy to help shape the narrative about a project that was important to him," she said.
