King Charles’ reported decision to welcome Prince Harry and Meghan Markle back to the UK has allegedly deepened tensions inside the royal family, with insiders claiming the move has left Prince William feeling appalled and betrayed.
The monarch is said to have extended an olive branch to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, amid claims that arrangements are being discussed for Charles to spend time with his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
However, the reported gesture has apparently caused friction between the King and the Prince of Wales.
According to Closer, royal insiders claim the situation has thrown the family into fresh turmoil, with concerns growing that the divide between Charles and William could have serious consequences for the future of the monarchy.
A close confidant told the outlet that the issue has been “bubbling away” for a long time, adding that neither side appears willing to back down.
“This has been bubbling away for what seems like an eternity, and neither of them is giving an inch,” the insider claimed. “Everyone is walking on eggshells and wondering how it has come to this.”
The source added that tensions are expected to rise further if Harry and Meghan return to the UK.
“There’s an acute awareness that things will get a whole lot worse once the Sussexes come to town,” the insider alleged. “William has been beside himself ever since he received the news. To say he’s upset and feeling undermined is a colossal understatement. The more it sinks in, the angrier he gets.”
The report further claims that William, who is preparing for his future role as King, still views Harry and Meghan as a serious threat to the monarchy’s reputation.
The alleged fallout comes as King Charles appears willing to repair family ties, while William is said to remain far less open to reconciliation with the Sussexes.
