Meghan Markle's reported plans to return to the UK next month with Prince Harry and their children have sparked fresh criticism, with one royal commentator claiming the visit could be an "admission of defeat."
According to recent reports, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to travel to Britain in July with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet for an Invictus Games-related event in Birmingham. If the visit takes place, it would mark the children's first trip to the UK since 2022.
The reports have prompted renewed debate among royal commentators, with TalkTV presenter Kinsey Schofield questioning the significance of Meghan's reported return.
Speaking on the broadcaster, Schofield said he remains sceptical about whether the Duchess of Sussex will ultimately make the trip.
"She doesn't like Britain. I don't think she'll like the lack of popularity she doesn't enjoy here in Britain," he said.
Schofield went on to suggest that, if Meghan does return, it could reflect challenges facing her professional ventures rather than simply a family visit.
"If she does show, it tells us how dire her professional and financial situation is that she's having to eat crow to this extent to get on an airplane and go back to some place that she claims treated her horribly," he said.
He also argued that such a decision could send mixed messages to supporters who have defended Meghan's criticism of the Royal Family and Britain over the past several years.
"The fact that Meghan is willing to throw her Louis Vuitton on a jet and head over to the UK tells me that this is an admission of defeat, that she is struggling so much professionally," Schofield added.
Neither Prince Harry nor Meghan Markle has publicly confirmed the reported visit, and no official itinerary has been announced. As a result, both the proposed trip and the claims about the Sussexes' motivations remain speculative.
