Oprah Winfrey says celebrities who want to protect their privacy may have little choice but to stay home.
Oprah Winfrey appeared to offer Prince Harry some direct advice about privacy while reflecting on their widely discussed 2021 interview.
During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the television personality watched a clip in which the Duke of Sussex spoke about the restrictions faced by senior members of the Royal Family.
“My father and my brother, they are trapped. They don’t get to leave, and I have huge compassion for that,” Harry said at the time.
Responding to the clip, Winfrey recalled her own experience of being recognised whenever she went out in public. She then shared a blunt message for celebrities who do not want to attract attention.
“If you don’t want to be bothered, stay home,” she said, adding: “If you want to keep your privacy, then don’t go out.”
Her remarks come as Prince Harry remains involved in a long-running dispute with the UK Home Office over security arrangements for himself and his family.
The issue returned to the spotlight during Harry’s recent visit to the UK. After his request for a security package was rejected by the Home Office and the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures, known as Ravec, Harry said Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet would not accompany him to London.
However, Harry, Meghan and their children reportedly visited King Charles at Highgrove, his Gloucestershire residence. It marked the family’s first reported meeting with the King in four years.
Harry and Meghan lost their automatic security arrangements after stepping back from their roles as working members of the Royal Family in 2020.
