Prince William is reportedly trying to keep his distance from the latest drama surrounding Prince Harry’s possible return to the UK.
The Prince of Wales, who is believed to remain estranged from his younger brother, is said to be focused on his family and royal duties rather than the headlines surrounding Harry’s upcoming visit.
Speaking to The Mirror, royal expert Jennie Bond said William has made a real effort to stop thinking about Harry and the ongoing tensions between them.
“I think William has worked hard at simply putting Harry out of his mind so that he can focus on his family and his job,” she said. “But now, with all the headlines and speculation about the visit, he can’t really avoid it.”
Bond suggested that, with the school holidays underway, William and his family may choose to step away from the public noise.
“It’s the school holidays, so William and the family can presumably take refuge somewhere away from all the hullabaloo,” she added.
The royal expert also said it may still be too soon to expect any meeting between the brothers. However, she noted that if Harry’s visit goes ahead and his children meet King Charles, it could possibly open the door to a small thaw in relations.
“I think it’s still too early to anticipate any sort of meeting between the brothers,” Bond said. “But if the visit does go ahead and the children meet the King, it could conceivably be the start of a thaw in the ice between William and Harry. But I wouldn’t take any bets on it.”
Bond added that trust remains a major problem for William, especially after the public accusations and criticism aimed at Princess Kate.
“Trust is still a major issue for William, who is a very private man,” she said. “He is also a very protective, loving husband who was enraged by the insults and allegations hurled at Catherine by the Sussexes.”
She concluded that William may never fully forgive Harry for what has happened between them.
