Could Prince Harry's UK return pave the way for peace with Prince William?

Prince Harry’s return to the UK with his family on August 26 has raised fresh hopes that he could eventually repair his strained relationship with Prince William.

With the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death approaching in 2027, royal commentator Robert Johnson believes the occasion could bring the estranged brothers together publicly.

“The 30th anniversary is going to be quite significant, I think,” Johnson told Hello! magazine.

He noted that Harry has continued to champion causes closely associated with his mother, including her campaign against landmines. The Duke of Sussex has visited Angola and supported efforts linked to Diana’s humanitarian legacy.

Johnson suggested that William and Harry may need to reach an agreement on how they will commemorate the anniversary.

“There’s going to be a moment where there has to be some form of arrangement for the 30th anniversary of Diana’s death,” he said. “How can they not be together?”

He added that the brothers may be expected to appear on the same stage. However, he warned that Harry’s efforts to take a more prominent role in preserving Diana’s legacy could create further tension with William.

According to Johnson, Harry's return may also place the Prince of Wales in a difficult position.

“The prodigal son coming back will be difficult for him,” he said, adding that Harry’s move could put pressure on William to adopt a more practical approach.

Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped back from their roles as senior working royals in January 2020. The couple later moved to California, where they now live with their children.
