King Charles’ reported attempt to repair relations with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may come at a cost for Kate Middleton.
The Princess of Wales is said to be concerned that reopening the door to the Sussexes could disrupt the sense of calm she has worked hard to create since the couple stepped away from royal duties.
Those tensions follow the allegations made about Kate in Harry’s memoir Spare and in interviews given by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The situation is reportedly even more difficult for the princess now that she has adopted a quieter, family-first lifestyle following her cancer treatment.
According to Closer Online, Charles has allegedly reached out to Harry and Meghan and could offer them a place to stay at Balmoral in Scotland. The reported invitation would coincide with Harry’s expected return to the UK in September for the WellChild Awards.
“Kate has worked incredibly hard to rebuild a sense of calm around her family over the last few years,” an insider claimed. “The thought of reopening old chapters is naturally emotional.”
The source added, “Kate feels like she’s losing control of the narrative. She just wants all of this firmly behind her.”
Meghan, however, reportedly views the situation from a completely different perspective. The duchess is said to see the possible royal invitation as a chance to reclaim her story, while Kate allegedly feels as though the Sussexes’ return to the spotlight is “being rubbed in her face.”
The insider further claimed that Meghan considers Charles’ reported gesture proof that she and Harry still hold significance within royal circles.
“She sees it as a sign that she and Harry haven’t been forgotten,” the source said. “She feels they’ve reached a point where people can no longer pretend they don’t matter.”
For Kate, however, the king’s apparent olive branch could risk reopening wounds she hoped had finally begun to heal.
