Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s future in Hollywood may come down to whether they can turn ideas into projects that genuinely connect with viewers, according to royal commentators.
Royal expert Hilary Fordwich made the remarks to Fox News Digital following the reported box-office performance of Cookie Queens, a documentary linked to Meghan and Prince Harry. The film reportedly brought in around $354,000 across 446 theatres.
Fordwich suggested the figures raise questions about the couple’s ability to draw mainstream audiences when their work is not connected to their royal experiences.
“The extremely underwhelming box office is a clear indication that, yet again, unless they are bashing the royals and sharing inside stories, secrets and betraying the privacy of the family, there isn’t much they have that is at all in demand nor popular,” she told the outlet.
She added: “Meghan certainly doesn’t have the commercial pull she has so desired.”
Fordwich argued that the Sussexes now face greater pressure to show they can create a successful project outside the royal narrative.
Commentator Kinsey Schofield echoed that view, saying their position in Hollywood may depend less on major announcements and more on delivering work that finds an audience.
“When Harry and Meghan first arrived in California, they were the story,” Schofield said. “Hollywood was essentially buying access to two people who had just walked away from the Royal Family, and the curiosity surrounding them was enormous.”
But, she added, that early fascination has faded over time. The focus is now on more practical questions: what they can make, what they can sell and whether they can build an audience without relying on royal family drama.
