Meghan Markle reportedly understands why Prince Harry wants to “bury the hatchet” with Prince William, but she believes any reconciliation must involve accountability on both sides.
According to Heat World, the Duchess of Sussex supports her husband’s desire to repair his strained relationship with his older brother. However, she is said to be uncomfortable with the idea that Harry should accept all the blame after everything the couple claims to have experienced behind palace walls.
“Meghan understands why he wants to bury the hatchet,” a royal insider told the publication. “She absolutely supports that, but she doesn’t believe Harry should have to throw himself at William’s feet to make it happen.”
The source claimed Meghan “can’t stomach the idea” of Harry ignoring their past grievances and acting as though nothing happened, adding that she does not consider such an approach “healthy, or the least bit fair.”
Instead, the Duchess is reportedly encouraging Harry to seek a balanced and honest conversation with William.
“She’s telling Harry that if and when he makes peace with William, it needs to be for the right reasons, with a mutual sense of contrition,” the insider said.
“They both need to sit down, be adults about it, own their respective sides and actually hear each other out.”
Meghan’s reported advice comes amid claims that Harry misses William and his sister-in-law, Kate Middleton.
A source close to the Duke of Sussex recently suggested that he is ready to leave the past behind and rebuild his relationship with the Prince and Princess of Wales.
However, Meghan reportedly believes that any lasting reconciliation will require both brothers to acknowledge their role in the family rift rather than placing the entire responsibility on Harry.
