Prince Harry has received support from royal commentators for the “half-in, half-out” model he and Meghan Markle previously proposed for their roles within the monarchy.
The Duke of Sussex is reportedly interested in rebuilding his relationship with the Royal Family and has privately raised the possibility of serving the Crown from overseas.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, royal expert Ian Pelham Turner argued that Buckingham Palace made a mistake by rejecting the couple’s proposed arrangement.
“The half-in, half-out approach advocated by Harry and Meghan is the modern-day method of how royal families should operate,” Turner said.
He also claimed that Queen Elizabeth II had been poorly advised when the proposal was considered. According to Turner, Harry was attempting to protect Meghan from the intense criticism she was facing at the time.
Fellow royal commentator Simon Vigar also believes that some form of hybrid arrangement could eventually become part of the monarchy, despite the Palace’s previous opposition to the idea.
“Harry did think that there was a hybrid version that they could do,” Vigar said, adding that a similar model could emerge in the years ahead.
He suggested that such an arrangement would allow members of the Royal Family to pursue independent work while still supporting relatives carrying out official duties. However, he acknowledged that clear boundaries would be needed to prevent accusations that royal connections were being used for financial gain.
The experts’ comments come amid reports that Harry has privately discussed taking on an overseas role on behalf of the monarchy. Australia has reportedly emerged as his preferred destination should such an opportunity become possible.
