Prince William is reportedly not interested in repairing his relationship with Prince Harry, despite suggestions that the Duke of Sussex could soon be spending more time in the UK.
The brothers have not been on speaking terms for years, and royal commentator Rachel Bowie believes any move that puts Harry closer to his family could make their rift harder to ignore.
Speaking on the Royally Obsessed podcast, Bowie said William appears to have “zero interest” in mending ties with his younger brother.
“But with Prince Harry local again, how long can William avoid the issue?” she said, suggesting Harry’s return may have been partly motivated by a hope of rebuilding family relationships.
Bowie added that the brothers’ proximity could keep the subject in the headlines. “The UK is only so big,” she said. “If Harry’s goal is to mend things with his brother, their proximity will likely be a repeated headline until William decides to, at least publicly, nip it in the bud.”
Former royal butler Grant Harrold has claimed that William may find it difficult to move past Harry’s public remarks about the Royal Family.
“William will be furious,” Harrold told The Independent. “Harry has said some extraordinary things about the family. William is somebody that when you break trust and you go beyond a certain point, there’s no going back.”
William is also said to be aligned with King Charles in opposing any “half-in, half-out” arrangement for Harry and Meghan Markle. The Sussexes had hoped to take on a part-time royal role when they stepped back from senior duties in 2020, but the proposal was not accepted.
