King Charles and Queen Camilla will tour the region later this year
King Charles has faced a new setback ahead of his planned visit to Antigua and Barbuda.
Just days after Buckingham Palace announced the trip, it was reported that the Caribbean country had removed its oath of loyalty to the monarch.
New government officials will no longer promise loyalty to King Charles III or his successors. Instead, they will pledge their loyalty to Antigua and Barbuda, its laws and its constitution.
The change became law in May. It followed the re-election of Prime Minister Gaston Browne on April 30.
Buckingham Palace announced on August 26 that King Charles and Queen Camilla will begin a week-long tour of the Caribbean later this year.
The royal couple will visit Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas and Guyana.
A main purpose of the trip is to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. The event will take place in Antigua and Barbuda from November 1 to 4.
Charles is the King of Antigua and Barbuda and also serves as head of the Commonwealth. The organization includes more than 50 countries, many of which were once part of the British Empire.
Before the Commonwealth meeting, Charles will visit the Bahamas, where he is also the monarch. He will then make a state visit to Guyana.
