Sarah Ferguson is also said to have met Princess Eugenie in Portugal
Meghan Markle and Sarah Ferguson reportedly met in Portugal shortly before the former Duchess of York travelled to South Africa.
Royal expert Andrew Lownie made the claim after reports that Prince Harry and Meghan had recently visited Portugal.
Sarah is also said to have met her daughter, Princess Eugenie, during the private trip.
According to Lownie, Harry and Meghan have visited the Portuguese estate before. This may have helped create a connection between the Sussexes and Sarah.
The expert suggested that Harry and Meghan may have told Eugenie about their reported plans to return to Britain. These plans are said to include sending Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to private schools in the Cotswolds.
However, Lownie believes Meghan was more likely to have shared the plans directly with Sarah.
“More likely, I feel, is that Meghan revealed the plan to Ferguson herself,” he wrote.
According to the Daily Express, Lownie said Meghan may have had two good reasons to speak with Sarah. Both women have faced difficult relationships with the Palace and may understand each other’s experiences.
“Very few people on the planet have personal experience of what that’s like, and both will benefit by sharing their notes,” he wrote.
Lownie also said Meghan may see Sarah as an example of someone who stayed connected to the Royal Family while building a business career.
Separately, royal commentator Rob Shuter claimed that Sarah has been staying in Cape Town, South Africa. He said she may be planning to return to Britain.
Other reports also suggest that Sarah is considering a move back to the UK, possibly following a similar path to Harry and Meghan.
