Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may not stay in Britain for long because they have no official royal role, according to royal commentator Dickie Arbiter.
Arbiter, who served as Queen Elizabeth II’s press secretary from 1988 to 2000, shared his views on Vanessa Feltz’s YouTube programme, At Home with Vanessa.
He suggested that Harry may hope to return to royal duties, but said he believes King Charles has made it clear that no role is available.
Arbiter said this could lead Harry to return to the United States rather than stay in Britain for an extended period.
He also said the arrangements agreed at the Sandringham Summit in January 2020 still apply. Harry and Meghan chose to step back from royal duties and become financially independent.
According to the report, King Charles authorised a letter to senior British officials earlier this month confirming that the couple remain non-working royals.
A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan said they were surprised by the letter, which stated that they would remain private citizens.
Arbiter’s comments reflect his view of the situation. They do not confirm the couple’s travel plans.
