Prince William and Kate Middleton’s strong friendship helped lay the foundation for their marriage, according to royal expert Ingrid Seward.
Speaking on a live episode of HELLO!’s A Right Royal Podcast, Seward said the couple were close friends before their relationship became romantic.
“I think what the great thing was that she and William were very good friends before they became lovers,” she said.
Seward recalled William visiting Kate at her family home in Bucklebury during a university break. They went to a local pub and spent a long time talking.
Although Seward could not remember exactly when this happened, she said Kate listened to William’s concerns and offered advice.
When he was unhappy studying History of Art, Kate encouraged him to consider another subject, such as Geography. William later made that change.
Seward’s comments came as the couple celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary in April. They shared a family photo with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, writing: “Celebrating 15 years of marriage.”
William and Kate married at Westminster Abbey in London on April 29, 2011. Millions of people around the world watched the ceremony.
