Prince William and Kate Middleton have highlighted Danish energy company Ørsted’s move from coal and oil to offshore wind power.
On Monday, September 21, their official Instagram account shared an Earthshot Prize post explaining why the company was named a finalist for the 2026 award.
The post described how Ørsted changed over two decades, moving from one of Europe’s most polluting energy companies to a leader in wind energy.
According to the caption, the company changed direction after recognizing how much the energy industry contributes to climate change.
The post also featured Hornsea 2, Ørsted’s offshore wind farm. It said one full turn of a single turbine generates enough electricity to power a home for 24 hours.
Another project, Hornsea 3, is under construction. According to the post, it will become the world’s largest offshore wind farm once completed.
Earthshot said these efforts earned Ørsted a place among the finalists in its “Fix Our Climate” category.
Prince William is the founder and president of the Earthshot Prize.
