A friend of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry says the couple believe calling them “former royals” is misleading.
Speaking to The Sunday Times, the friend explained that Harry and Meghan remain members of the royal family, even though they no longer carry out official royal duties.
The friend also said the couple dislike the phrase “working members of the royal family” because it does not clearly describe their situation.
According to the source, Harry and Meghan both work and build their daily lives around their family and careers. The friend added that Meghan runs her business seven days a week.
The source also explained that visits such as their trip to Nottingham are not carried out on behalf of the King or the royal household. However, Harry is still the King’s son and a member of the royal family.
The friend said describing the couple as “former royals” affects how people see and talk about them.
The comments came after Harry and Meghan appeared together in public on Thursday during a surprise visit to Britain. They returned to Nottingham, where they carried out their first official joint engagement nine years earlier.
