Prince Harry explains reasons for UK move ahead of family’s US Thanksgiving plans

Prince Harry has opened up about his decision to return to the UK, saying the move offered new opportunities for his family and a chance to spend more time closer to his relatives.

His comments come as he and Meghan Markle prepare to take Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to the US for Thanksgiving.

Speaking to GQ, the Duke of Sussex said enrolling his children in a British school had meant more to him than he initially expected.

“I didn’t know how important it was to me,” Harry said. “I always thought it was going to be something that we would try and do, but now they’ve been in school for two weeks. They’re loving it and it’s just giving them a whole different experience.”

Harry made clear that he was not criticising the children’s American schools. Instead, he said he valued the chance for Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, to experience life and education in both countries.

“I think for kids at seven and five, to be able to have that comparison and to have two completely different cultural experiences is so important today,” he explained.

Beyond schooling, the return also held personal meaning for Harry. He said being closer to his family and having more time in Britain were important parts of the decision.

“To be back closer to my family and to be back on UK soil for longer than a few days or a week here or there. It’s nice to be back.”
