Prince Harry has shared how he and Meghan Markle approached their move to the UK, saying they decided to act when the timing felt right.
Speaking to GQ, the Duke of Sussex acknowledged that moving Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to another country was not an easy decision. He explained that the couple had considered the idea, but had not spent years planning the move.
“Look, there’s no part of anything, really, that’s easy anymore. For lots of people. And this wasn’t something that we planned for a long time. It’s something that we’ve thought about and we’ve considered,” Harry said.
“For us, when certain stars align and it’s clear that this should or probably will end up being the case, then we lean into that.”
The move brings the children closer to King Charles and their wider British family. However, Harry did not directly link the decision to his father’s cancer diagnosis in the comments quoted.
The Sussexes have experienced several major changes since stepping back from royal duties in 2020. They spent time in Canada before moving to California, where they stayed at Tyler Perry’s home before settling in Montecito.
Their departure from royal life was followed by interviews, their Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, and Harry’s memoir, Spare. These offered their account of life within the monarchy while bringing family tensions further into public view.
Now, Harry’s latest comments offer a more personal look at how the couple make decisions for their children. He described the return as something they had discussed and chose to pursue when the circumstances came together.
