Sharon Osbourne said she kept the full details of Ozzy Osbourne’s illness from their children and his Black Sabbath bandmates before his death.
Ozzy died at 76 from a reported heart attack, just over two weeks after his farewell concert on July 5, 2025, in Birmingham.
He had several health problems, including Parkinson’s disease and injuries from a fall that required multiple operations. He also had emphysema, a lung condition that made breathing difficult.
Despite these challenges, Ozzy performed at Villa Park in his home city. The concert became the film Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back To The Beginning.
Speaking at a screening, Sharon said his bandmates and their children did not know how seriously ill he was.
She explained that Ozzy had worried about whether he would be able to sing at the concert. His breathing could change from one day to the next. He might feel well for two days, then wake up wheezing and struggling to breathe.
“He was just praying that his lungs would work and he could sing,” she said.
Sharon said the concert brought Ozzy great happiness, which stayed with him until his death. He felt thankful to everyone who had supported him.
“He was laughing, telling jokes again. It was brilliant,” she recalled.
Sharon and Ozzy married in 1982 and had three children together: Aimee, Kelly and Jack. Ozzy also had three children from his previous marriage to Thelma Riley, including his adopted son, Elliot.
Black Sabbath formed in Birmingham in 1968 and became one of the most successful heavy metal bands. Ozzy was widely known as the “Prince of Darkness.”
