Royal photographer Arthur Edwards recalled asking Diana why the couple spent so much time apart
Princess Diana and the future King Charles were spending more time apart before they announced their separation in 1992. Royal photographer Arthur Edwards said their photos showed signs of trouble in their marriage.
In his new autobiography, Cup of Tea, Arthur? My Extraordinary 50 Years Photographing the Royal Family, Edwards recalled asking Diana about the situation.
In an excerpt shared by The Sun, he said he became so concerned about how much time the couple spent apart that he spoke to her at a cocktail party in Madrid.
He asked Diana about reports that she and Charles were leading separate lives. She replied, “Oh, that!” and joked about the rumours in the press.
Diana explained that attending royal events separately allowed them to accept more invitations.
She told Edwards that this meant they could visit twice as many places and meet twice as many people.
Edwards also explained that, when photographing the Royal Family, he looked for images that told a clear story without needing a caption.
