Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s UK security battle faces new questions

Allegations involving Meghan Markle’s estranged father, Thomas Markle, could add a new complication to her and Prince Harry’s efforts to secure increased protection in the United Kingdom.

Simon Morgan, a former Metropolitan Police royal bodyguard and founder of Trojan Consultancy, told Page Six that security officials would need to consider whether the allegations could make Meghan a target.

Thomas has denied the allegations, calling them “sick lies.” According to reports, authorities in the Philippines are investigating material allegedly found among his possessions. No charges have been filed in connection with the reported findings.

Morgan said any decision about Harry and Meghan’s protection would depend on intelligence and evidence of credible threats.

He explained that RAVEC, the committee responsible for royal security decisions, would look at social media activity, discussions on the dark web and any increase in hostile messages sent to the couple. Officials would also consider how the public was reacting to the allegations.

The main question, Morgan said, is whether the publicity changes the level of danger Harry and Meghan face. Officials would need to establish whether it has led to credible threats and whether the couple could be at risk of harm.

He added that the possibility could not be ruled out, but any action would depend on the nature of the threat and how likely it was to lead to harm.
